how would a person have someone committed for a gambling addiction?
My friend’s husband has lost their house and his business in the last 2 years and now they are getting all their utilities turned off because he said he paid the bills but they were not paid .He waits at the mailbox for his retirement check and makes a beeline for the casino and don’t come home till the money is gone .He then tries to tell her that she did something with all the money because she has a brain tumor and he is trying to make her think she is craze .She is supposed to go and get the tumor out but the hospital is 4 hours away and they do not have the money to get the gas to go .what should we do as I don’t have the money to take her myself they are both in their late 60’s .Can we have him committed for cruelty to her or attempted murder .
she also found out yesterday that she has a tumor in her breast also .Is he not causing her a slow death .
Well, the thing that sucks is that ti get help for a compulsive gambling problem, the person needs to want help. Most people realize that when they hit rock bottom, everyones rock bottom is different. Some people lose their house and business and thats not enough, my friends wife committed suicide before he realized he needed help. He is gambling free for tha last 6 years but is living a unhappy lonely life now because he blames her death on him.
If your are real close friend, you need to get him to realize that he has a sickness and is hurting more than himself, try to get him help with a local Gamlbers Annonymous group in your area. Remember, he has to want to get hel or it wont help him. Good Luck and God Bless
