Is Ativan ever prescribed for detoxing off of Klonopin?
I know it can be used for alcohol withdrawal, it is just that as a RN student, I am working with a client who is prescribed an ativan detox regimen, but i saw nothing in the chart about ETOH abuse/dependence. Did I miss something, or is it also used for detoxing off of Klonopin?
My instructor just emailed me (she has a masters in nursing, so to answer our question): Ativan is short acting and the preferred choice to detox most folks who have been abusing these drugs. Klonopin is a longer acting pill that is tough to detox from so the ativan is very helpful. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

Why would you try to detox off one drug with one almost exactly like it? They are both benzodiazapins. The normal detox off this stuff is a gradual cut down, not a substitution. So no, it is not used to detox off Klonopin.
