1.5 million a year spent on one minor by the Department of Community Services. Right or wrong?
I work in Juvenile Justice. I have a friend who works for the abovementioned child protection agency. She told me about a horrific case where a 15 year old girl is so mentally disturbed that she needs 4 workers on a 24 hour base to watch her so that she doesn’t slash her stomach open pulling out her intestines all the time. This is costing the Australian Government 1.5 million per year. There is NO way of scheduling this and other horribly damaged minors in mental health facilities due to extremely poor diagnostic parameters, and so, these obviously mentally ill kids come into Custody or are looked after welfare personnel such as DoCS costing the tax payer millions, when this money could go to better rehabilitation of our young offenders upon release (we only get them back straight away because they return to their criminal element or their abusive backgrounds). Who agrees this is a gross waste of taxpayers’s dollars and what can we do about it?
I can understand this 15 year old needing help and constant supervision, but 1.5 million???…spent on what?..on who?? What can be done about it?..nothing, it is typical government spending. or over spending I should say.
