Is there a website with printable maps of all- time USA rail trunk, branchline & interurban rail network?
Part of the Peaking Oil solution set, (the elusive Petrocollapse Plan B) will include rehab & capacity expansion of existing & former US rail track footprint. This has statutory precedent in the July 10, 1838 US Act of Congress mandating All Railroads to be Federally designated “Post Roads”. The reason for this act was to provide for Secure Federal Transport Corridors for transport & communications. Rail was for over 100 years the primary guarantor of SOCIETAL & COMMERCIAL COHESION in a growing America. Coincidental with this period was the USA period of being a lending, not a borrowing nation, an EXPORTER OF OIL!
It is now crucially important to once again base our land transport system with significant rail capacity & reach to keep America mobile & provisioned thru the Oil Interregnum. Events in the Straits of Hormuz will adversely affect our ability to maintain our mobility & distribute necessities of life.
