How we think and feel about food is deeply influenced by the way food is used as in our families as children. If food is used as a fun prize to bribe a punishment or stress relief sadness, anger or other negative emotions, problems that can result.

Often, people eat when they are not hungry, just bored, sad, angry, upset or alone. When you eat for these reasons, they have the habit of eating foods high in fat, sugar or both. There is nothing wrong with enjoying a meal, just make sure you get enough healthy foods and limit the quantities of junk food.

People who eat for reasons other than hunger sometimes feel guilty after they are engaged. This very often leads to eating more and more guilt. These people often become obsessed with food, "Cookie Monster Syndrome." Support groups and counseling people overeat for emotional reasons.

The other side of the obsession with food is anorexia nervosa and bulimia. Anorexia nervosa is a serious disease in which the person stops or greatly reduced their intake food to induce weight loss. Approximately ten percent of people who are anorexics die from the disease. People with this condition are seen as the fat, even when very thin.

Bulimia nervosa is a disorder in the patient eats food (often saturated), and then vomit or take laxatives or diuretics to prevent weight gain or induce weight loss. This can lead to loss of electrolytes and minerals essential for good cardiac function and the pH balance in blood. Both conditions are serious and require medical monitoring assistance.

Successful weight control is by knowing the cause of your particular problem and then develop programs accordingly. Some people do not know what is on good nutrition, just to learn the facts about nutrition and exercise to apply what they have learned without difficulty.

Other unconscious eating habits, like eating while doing other activities and do not care what or how much to eat. Being aware of the problem and using techniques such as behavior modification techniques can help people with problems like these.

You lose your taste for food high in fat, sugar and eat more healthy foods by choice, even when weight control not a problem. A combined approach including education, healthy eating habits and exercise, and advice if needed, will result in permanent fat loss and weight control. A step forward in your fitness lifestyle.
